Catholic Charities Seniors’ Mobile Meeting .. Revisited

Each Thursday morning between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm the Dundee Community Center comes alive as Catholic Charities (Diocese of Central Florida) Incorporated holds their Seniors’ Mobile Meeting here in the Town of Dundee , Florida . Coordinator Marie Rich continues to have a large group of Seniors attend these meetings , providing these residents with the chance to get together for the camaraderie , friendship, while also being provided with information issues which affect the Seniors in general. The Dundee Community Center as a facility is owned by the Town of Dundee and is provided to Marie Rich free of charge to stage these meetings each week. It benefits the community at large and shows the residents of our Town that the Commissioners are in full approval of this effort.

The Dundee Public Library in its capacity, has seen fit to have one of its volunteers Alan Parkins keep its patrons appraised of the ongoing efforts of Catholic Charities and Alan has provided his own experience, having a taught a class on Computer Literacy and Safety to the Seniors at a prior meeting. It was such a success that he has been asked to return and give regular classes in the future .

Welcome To The Dundee Public Library (Florida)

The Dundee Public Library continues to provide day to day patrons and out of town guests the best possible service while meeting other perfunctory needs within the community . Having been converted to an E-Library (Express Library) , all of the customer needs can still be met , with their being a well-trained staff on hand led by Library Director Vivian Godfrey , two-part-time staff members Kaliyah Monroe and LaShonta Wade .

DVD’s and audio listening books are available to be loaned , as well as the customary fiction and non-fiction books in hardback and paperback covers. There is a well-established Children’s Reading Room within the library which is dedicated to Stella Meredith, with shared eulogies to Thelma Jones and Wendy Reid, both longtime residents within the Town of Dundee, with both being widely known within the community for their dedication to the Dundee Public Library.

The Stella Meredith Children’s Reading Room is well-stocked with a wide variety of children’s books spanning kindergarten up to eighth grade. Our library also contains AR books (accelerated reading books) for elementary school children and that inventory is also well-stocked. The Dundee Public Library also offers Computer Classes which are free of charge , with these lessons taking place each Wednesday and Thursday between 2:00 and 3:00 pm with the classes being tutored by library volunteer Alan Parkins . Also offered as a service within the library are photocopying, laminating , printed copies from the library’s sixteen public computers as well as a facsimile and scanning service for customers and patrons. Prices are listed at the Circular Desk of the Dundee Public Library. Our library has sixteen public desktop computers available to the public throughout the hours of operation along with seven I-pads available for the use by the children who attend the library.

For many years the Dundee Public Library has been active within the community , working in conjunction with Friends of The Library Dundee Florida Incorporated to offer a year-round activities’ program for the children within our community (Town of Dundee). Our Summer Reading Program remains extremely popular with a wide variety of activities encapsulated within that particular program. We also have our Children’s Story-time which is presided over by Mary-Ann Podbielski , a long-time volunteer with the Dundee Public Library as well as being the Vice President of Friends of The Library Dundee Florida Incorporated.

In my capacity and role as the Contributing and Main Editor for much of the social platform content for the Dundee Public Library. On Thursday afternoon, I took it upon myself to visit the local Community Center where Catholic Charities Mobile Seniors’ Service held their weekly meetings for Seniors within our community . The coordinator for the event , Marie Rich whom I’ve come to know well in a very short time was gracious enough me along to attend their meeting.

At this morning’s (Thursday) event there was a guest presenter who was an insurance salesman for one of the state’s top health insurance providers. He had the opportunity to educate the Seniors on some of their most basic needs when it came to health insurance as well as helping them to navigate to the obstacles posed by federal government’s benefits. I have to say that I was very impressed with how easy he made for the Seniors to understand without getting into the legal jargon often associated with this issue. From a personal standpoint, I could see that my uncle , Headley Gordon was relieved by this all.

This program by Catholic Charities has been existence for almost a year here in the town of Dundee and has been operational county-wide within Polk County (Florida) for a number of years. It has become highly popular among the Seniors within the county and most certainly among the local residents here in Dundee. Renewal of Program …. Computer Classes at the Dundee Public Library

The Dundee Public Library will be looking to renew a program once again, with the start of basic Computer Classes being held at the Library. The goal of this objective will be to teach any interested patrons in learning the basics behind the use of a laptop , desktop computer as well as handheld devices such as a smart-phone or tablet . Also as part of these classes we would be looking to educate the participants in the safety protocols of using these devices , because of the ever-growing threat of cyber-crime and the threat posed by fraud if your personal information falls into the wrong hands, hackers who troll the internet with the view of causing immeasurable harm to their victims.

If you are interested in signing up for these classes then simply inform a staff member of the Dundee Library of your intent and you will be registered for the class . In anticipation of the numbers we would then set a date for the class to commence with the possibility of holding one if not two classes a week , with a duration of not more than one hour per lesson. Classes would be taught by resident library volunteer Alan Parkins and would be free of charge.

Fresh Beginnings In 2018 here at the Dundee Public Library Florida

Welcome back and as the Dundee Public Library enters 2018 things begin anew with a new Library Director Vivian Godfrey , presiding over a staff of two part-time employees, Eileen Young , Kaliyah Monroe as well as a group of volunteers, who seek to make the facility a welcoming place for our patrons as well the residents within the Town of Dundee who make use of the facility on a daily basis during our hours of operation.

FEMA Relief Assistance ….

For those Town of Dundee residents and within Polk County seeking emergency relief assistance from FEMA here is a link to the federal agency’s website detailing the requirements for those applicants in need. Assistance will also be provided at the Dundee Public Library for applicants who are having difficulty in filling out their application for relief aid . Please make sure you have in your possession documents needed , to fill out your application . Please refer to the information below regarding the application process .

If you experience difficulty applying online, you may also call (800) 621-3362 / TTY (800) 462-7585 to apply during standard hours of operation (7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern Time), 7 days a week . You can also check your application status at DisasterAssistance.gov. Survivors have 60-days from the date of a declaration for Individual Assistance to apply for assistance.
