Miz Daisy Show A Summer Reading Program Event …

Wednesday, July 19th will the be the next event as part of the Summer Reading Program hosted by Friends of The Library Dundee Florida (Inc) in conjunction with the Dundee Public Library. The venue for the event will be the Dundee Community Center located at 603 Lake Marie Boulevard , Dundee , Florida. Our guest performer will be Miz Daisy , performing her usual sustainable brand of entertainment , providing a great deal of fun and laughter as well as some timely magic as part of her performance.

Beginning at 10:00 am, we would advise our patrons , guardians , parents and caregivers wishing to have their child attend , simply register that child in advance. This can be done by simply giving the information required to a library staff in person or calling the number listed below.

Ronald McDonald Show : A 2017 Summer Reading Program Event ….

Another fun day for the children as the Dundee Public Library in conjunction with Friends of The Library Dundee hosted another event as part of their Summer Reading Program. Wednesday , June 28th , Ronald McDonald took center-stage as he provided the children with a morning of fun-filled entertainment. The venue for this was the Dundee Community Center , with the auditorium filled with kids, parents, guardians and custodians. Also in attendance were the children from Camp Rock , part of the Polk County Parks & Recreation’s initiative of a Summer Camp for the kids throughout the Summer.

The volunteers from Friends of The Library would like to take this opportunity to thank Ronald McDonald for his appearance at the Dundee Community and his being able to provide the children with a great deal of entertainment on Wednesday.

Our next presentation as part of Summer Reading Program will take place on 12th July at the Dundee Community Center at 10:00 am and will be a “ Color Your World Crayola Experience” . As usual , registration in advance will be required for the children wishing to attend the event. This can be done by phone or in person at the Dundee Library, simply leaving the information sought with a staff member.

Film Movie Night Recap ….

Our second monthly movie presentation here at the Dundee Public Library was the hit film ‘Sing’ . This event took place this past Friday and was heartily attended by a number of children alongside their guardians or parents. Staff members and volunteers were on hand from the library as well as Friends of The Library Dundee as co-hosts of the event. It was very clear the children were very enthusiastic and warmly received the showing of ‘Sing’ .

The next movie presentation will take place on Friday 21st July at 6:30 pm . Free tickets will be available and do remember these tickets are on a first come first serve basis and the availability will be limited to forty-nine . So be sure to make the library staff aware of your wish to attend our next movie event. Details concerning the titled movie will be made public in due course. Story-time … We’re back

The Dundee Public Library will be resuming their Morning Story-time sessions will begin at 10:00 am , as of Friday, 16th September, 2016 at the library, housed within the Municipal Complex , in the Town of Dundee. Our resident host for these morning sessions will be Mary Ann Podbielski a long time volunteer with the Dundee Public Library as well as a Board Member with Friends of The Library Dundee Inc (Florida) . The Story-time program will take place on a weekly basis unless other wise stated and changes to the program will be published in advance of a revised date.

Arts and crafts will also be a feature of our story-time program , along with snacks ,which will be served. We ask that guardians and parents preregister their children prior to each session in order to accommodate the numbers. Preregistering can be done by phone (simply provide a staff member with your details) or in person , here at the library.

Our Community Heroes’ Day Scenes …

Our  Community   Heroes’   Day    Scenes  ….

 

Another event was successfully managed by the Dundee Public Library in conjunction with Friends of the Library Dundee Inc (Florida) and their promotion of Community Heroes’ Day. Held at the Dundee Community Center , this scheduled event was part of the library’s Summer Reading Program and brought out many of the children within our local community along with their guardians or parents. Also in attendance were children from the Polk County Parks and Recreation Department’s own Summer Program, Cam Rock.

Organized to promote the great work done by our first responders , we had invited guests, members from the Polk County Sheriff’s Department, Florida Forestry Division , a local school crossing guard , Eric Bond. Also on hand were Smokey The Bear and McGruff The Crime Dog, as the kids got to meet and greet these individuals. The officers from each of these services gave a brief speech as to what their jobs entailed and how they interact with the public as part of their day-to-day duties.

This Wednesday morning event proved to be an enjoyable experience for all of the children in attendance and the volunteers from the Dundee Library who assisted Library Superintendent Julie Feagle in making this all possible are to be commended. So special words of appreciation go out to Mary Ann Podbielski, Shyann Jenkins and Alan Parkins for their service provided on the day !

Patriotic Craft at the Dundee Community Center , Dundee, Florida

The Dundee Public Library’s Patriotic Craft Day held in conjunction with the Friends of The Library Dundee Inc as part of the Summer Reading Program took place on Wednesday, 29th June at the Dundee Community Center , Dundee , Florida. With children from the local community in attendance along with those from the Camp Rock Summer Program , an initiative of the Polk County Parks and Recreation Department, this event proved to be a tremendous success.

With a morning of arts and crafts, along with DJ Ric aka (Eric Bond) providing the music, much of which had a patriotic flavor to the morning’s activities, as we commemorate the nation’s two hundred and fortieth birthday on the 4th July. This would be the last event for the month of June as part of our Summer Reading Program schedule. There will be more events being staged during the month of July as we round out the Summer Reading Program for the year. Patriotic Craft Day Reminder ….

Just a kindly reminder, this Wednesday, 29th June, the Dundee Public Library in conjunction with the Friends of The Library Dundee Inc will be hosting their Patriotic Craft Day at the Dundee Community Center, 603 Lake Marie Drive , Dundee, FL 33838. This event will begin at 10:00 am and at 12:00pm and is one of the scheduled calendar events as part of our Summer Reading Program.

Patriotic Craft Day …

Wednesday 29th June, 2016 , please join us at the Dundee Community Center, Dundee , Florida when the Dundee Public Library in conjunction with Friends of The Library Dundee Inc present their Patriotic Craft Day (from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm) . This will be a morning filled with a great deal of fun and entertainment with music being supplied by DJ Ric. Kids within the community are invited to attend in the accompaniment of a parent or guardian.

Please note as with our earlier events , the children in attendance are required to pre-register for each of the events within our Summer Reading Program Schedule. In order to register child for the event , a parent or guardian simply has to call the library , providing a staff member with the relevant information required or they can visit us in person here at the Dundee Public Library. Registration is required by no later than Monday, 27th June .

Hearing Loss of America Proclamation Month : May , Better Speech & Hearing , as Recognized by the Town of Dundee, Florida

On Tuesday , 26th April , 2016 at the Town of Dundee’s bi-weekly Commission Meeting, a proclamation was made to make the month of April , National Hearing Loss Awareness Month . Accepting this proclamation was the Lakeland Chapter President , Elaine Goddard , on behalf of the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLA) . Mayor Sam Pennant presented the award on behalf of the Town of Dundee to the HLA Lakeland Chapter President .

Mrs Goddard , is also the wife of Town Commissioner Bert ‘ Bertram ‘ Goddard , who also is a member of the HLA Lakeland Chapter. In accordance with the town’s ongoing support of many of the local charities within Polk County ,the Town Commission was proud to make this proclamation , while also acknowledging the efforts of Elaine Goddard and her fellow volunteers within the HLA .

The Dundee Public Library hosted a Hearing Loss Seminar in May of 2015, which was a well attended event. It is the intention of the Library to co-host another event with Friends of The Library Dundee Inc, in conjunction with the Hearing Loss Association of America (Lakeland Chapter) during the Summer. A date has yet to be set, but detailed information will be provided to the public closer to the time we intend to schedule this seminar.

It’s Your Library And It’s Here For You ….

The Dundee Public Library remains an integral part of the town of Dundee’s community , with an amenable staff always on hand to help the long-standing patrons and visitors to the facility. This library offers a wide range of DVD’s , audio CD’s as well as its inventory of fiction and non-fiction books. It should be noted also as a member of the Polk County Library Cooperative the Dundee Public Library also offers the availability of loaning books through the PCLC system. Also offered at the Dundee are services such as facsimile services , photo-copying, laminating and a notary on staff.

Julie Feagle Library Superintendent for the Dundee Public Library, has a staff of two part-time employees assisting her to facilitate a smooth running operation for the library. Eileen Young and Kaliyah Monroe are the two individuals who assist Julie in the day to day running of the facility.

Currently the Dundee Public Library works in close conjunction with Friends of The Library Dundee Inc to offer a wide array of social programs within the community , among them are the children’s story-time presided over by Mary-Ann Podbielski , whereby children of kindergarten age get the chance to spend some time at the library for an hour with Mary-Ann providing them with arts and crafts and a story-time reading session. FOL also operates an outreach program within the community , raising the profile both the Dundee Public Library as well as Friends of The Library Dundee Inc (FOL) .

Another popular initiative recently started by the library are the Wednesday and Thursday afternoon game sessions, where many of the children are provided with the chance to play the card games associated with the Japanese Anime’ genre , those games being Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh.. This is done in conjunction with Carl’s Gamestation located here in the town of Dundee, with a staff member from Carl’s in attendance providing the children with the tutelage and nuances of the games. These sessions are usually ninety minutes duration , starting at 3:30 pm each Wednesday and Thursday afternoon , unless otherwise notified.

Throughout the year , FOL also organizes several events within the community with either the Dundee Library or the Dundee Community Center as the venue for these events.
