Miz Daisy Show A Summer Reading Program Event …

Wednesday, July 19th will the be the next event as part of the Summer Reading Program hosted by Friends of The Library Dundee Florida (Inc) in conjunction with the Dundee Public Library. The venue for the event will be the Dundee Community Center located at 603 Lake Marie Boulevard , Dundee , Florida. Our guest performer will be Miz Daisy , performing her usual sustainable brand of entertainment , providing a great deal of fun and laughter as well as some timely magic as part of her performance.

Beginning at 10:00 am, we would advise our patrons , guardians , parents and caregivers wishing to have their child attend , simply register that child in advance. This can be done by simply giving the information required to a library staff in person or calling the number listed below.

Our Annual Book Sale , 2017

On Saturday , 11th March ,2017 the Dundee Public Library in conjunction with Friends of The Library Dundee Inc hosted their Annual Book Sale at the Dundee Community Center , Dundee , Florida. The event was a resounding success and we were able to raise in excess of $550.00, which will go towards the funding of FOL’s (Friends of The Library) Summer Reading Program and other events we plan to stage over the course of this calendar year. The staff and volunteers of the Dundee Public Library and Friends of The Library would like to thank all of the attendees and patrons for their warm generosity and donations made in this effort ! Without your ongoing support, none of this would at all be possible and we will endeavor to continue to have a presence and raise our profile within community , while rewarding the children who will be able to benefit from this all.

Our Fundraising Drive Begins In Earnest …

Our fundraising events are fast approaching and the joint efforts of the Dundee Public Library and Friends of The Library Dundee (Florida) Inc remain paramount in the continued success achieved each year with these events. In the month of March, there will be our Annual Book Sale which takes place on Saturday , 11th March , 2017 from 9:00 am  until 2:00  pm  at the Dundee Community Center , located at 605 Lake Marie Drive , Dundee , FL 33838 .

There will be a wide variety of books, fiction , non-fiction, magazines covering a wide assortment of popular authors .

The second of the two events planned, will be the Krispy Kreme Doughnut Sale (Fundraiser) taking place on March 30th at the Dundee Public Library. We would encourage all of our patrons and guests who wish to make a purchase of the Krispy Kreme Doughnuts to pre-order their requests as this will be the only way to make your purchase , details of which can be found below.

Town of Dundee (Fl) Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony ….

The Town of Dundee officially kicked-off their Christmas Celebrations with the official Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on Thursday 2nd December with the scene of the event being the Dundee Community Center. On hand to emcee the proceedings , Assistant Town Manager Deena Ware. Also present were the town commissioners and some local dignitaries. The theme of the event was Christmas and its special meaning to all at this time of the year. An invocation was provided by Reverend Jose Calderon and the national anthem was sung by Venessa Goddard .

Musical presentations for this event were provided by members of the Bok Academy Chorus , directed by Timothy Cain. Also there, providing some additional entertainment , were Kimberley Rodriguez from the Don Woods Opportunity Center, as were members of the Dundee Elementary School , who gave the audience several wonderful Christmas Carol renditions, while being directed by Tamela Gonzalez. The Dundee Ridge Middle Academy Choir were also present with their performance while being conducted by Cathy Montero. Cookies and hot chocolate were also served at Santa’s Grotto to keep the guests happy as the event was being staged.

To make the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony even more special, there was an appearance by Santa and Mrs Claus, which provided a photo opportunity for many of the children in appearance , while their parents or guardians looked on.

Next Saturday, 10th December , the Town of Dundee will stage their Annual Christmas Parade from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm .

On Wednesday 3rd August , 2016, at the Dundee Community Center , the Dundee Public Library in conjunction with Friends of The Library Dundee Inc held their last event of their Summer Reading Program Schedule. An ice cream party sponsored by local businessman Kevin Kitto and his wife Jill Kitto. The recipients of the Kitto’s benevolence on the day were the seventy-four children who attended the event along with their caregivers, guardians and parents. Also in attendance, were Dundee Vice Mayor Bertram ‘Bert’ Goddard and his daughter Venessa Goddard. Presiding over the event was Library Superintendent Julie Feagle with assistance coming from FOL (Friends of The Library Dundee) volunteers Mary-Ann Podbielski and Alan Parkins .

Backpacks were handed out to a number of children as prizes. Done in recognition of not only their studious efforts over the Summer, but also as of making sure their return to school would not be one of hardship for their parents.

Throughout this Summer Schedule, the Dundee Public Library and Friends of The Library have sought to bring about a wide variety of events to entertain the children within our community , with the hope of providing a fun-filled spectacle for everyone in attendance during each of our scheduled shows .

A special word of thanks to the Kitto’s for making this last event possible and for their generosity ! Behind the scenes also, the efforts of the Dundee Library’s staff and those of the library’s volunteers should not go unnoticed, as throughout the year their continued dedication to the library has been exemplary .

With our Summer Reading Program for 2016 having come to an end , Mary-Ann will be resuming her Story-time Reading sessions at the Dundee Public Library. We would like to hear from the parents and the daycare center providers within our community who attend with the children , the sessions presided over by Mary-Ann. Simply call and speak with Library Superintendent Julie Feagle and offer up any ideas you might have concerning the Story-time Reading Sessions.

Big Idea Balloons post-event …

On Wednesday morning the Dundee Public Library and Friends of The Library Dundee Inc hosted another Summer Reading Program event at the Dundee Community Center, Dundee, Florida. As hosts of the event , we had Keith Harvey of Big Idea Balloons entertaining the children with an array of magic tricks , while parents , guardians, children and even library staff members participated in assisting Keith with his performance. A fun morning was indeed on the agenda, with a little comedy thrown in for good measure by the magician.

With each of the events planned by the Dundee Library and Friends of The Library, our intent is provide an environment for the children to have a great deal of fun at each function. As the Summer comes to a close , we hope all of the attendees, along with their guardians and parents have enjoyed the experience we have provided. The library’s staff and volunteers’ endeavor has been to make each of the scheduled events a singular yet enjoyable experience for everyone. We hope through the remainder of the Summer, all of the attendees for our upcoming events are able to have a great deal of fun, while making some new and long-lasting friendships.

Patriotic Craft at the Dundee Community Center , Dundee, Florida

The Dundee Public Library’s Patriotic Craft Day held in conjunction with the Friends of The Library Dundee Inc as part of the Summer Reading Program took place on Wednesday, 29th June at the Dundee Community Center , Dundee , Florida. With children from the local community in attendance along with those from the Camp Rock Summer Program , an initiative of the Polk County Parks and Recreation Department, this event proved to be a tremendous success.

With a morning of arts and crafts, along with DJ Ric aka (Eric Bond) providing the music, much of which had a patriotic flavor to the morning’s activities, as we commemorate the nation’s two hundred and fortieth birthday on the 4th July. This would be the last event for the month of June as part of our Summer Reading Program schedule. There will be more events being staged during the month of July as we round out the Summer Reading Program for the year. Our Annual Book Sale

The FOL Annual Book Sale (2016)

Saturday morning , 12th March, 2016 and Friends of The Library Dundee’s Annual Book Sale got underway at the Dundee Community Center . The event was hosted by the charity (Friends of The Library Dundee Inc / FOL) and the funds raised will go towards many of the activities and outreach programs initiated by FOL , staged at the Dundee Public Library , the community center and within the local community. On hand were board members from the charity , represented by its President Rukhsana Harper , Mary-Ann Podbielski, Karen Weston and Alan Parkins . Also present were Library Superintendent Julie Feagle , volunteers , Jack Elliot and Steven Kwasnicki.

A healthy gathering of attendees came along to make their purchases and show their support of our efforts. Images can be seen on the respective Facebook pages and websites of the Dundee Public Library and Friends of The Library Dundee Inc.

As Friends of The Library’s activities have become more widespread, so too has its profile , with it being raised , notable mentions within the local media , from civic leaders on the Dundee Town Commission , as well as the Dundee Chamber of Commerce and local businesses within the community. The continued endeavors of Friends of The Library and recognition received from our many supporters and sponsors, has been the main reason and driving force behind our work within the local area and community at large. We are appreciative of our many supporters , patrons and sponsors who continue to support us fervently .

Throughout the coming year , FOL will be hosting and staging several events, which will benefit the kids’ programs staged at the Dundee Public Library .

It’s Your Library And It’s Here For You ….

The Dundee Public Library remains an integral part of the town of Dundee’s community , with an amenable staff always on hand to help the long-standing patrons and visitors to the facility. This library offers a wide range of DVD’s , audio CD’s as well as its inventory of fiction and non-fiction books. It should be noted also as a member of the Polk County Library Cooperative the Dundee Public Library also offers the availability of loaning books through the PCLC system. Also offered at the Dundee are services such as facsimile services , photo-copying, laminating and a notary on staff.

Julie Feagle Library Superintendent for the Dundee Public Library, has a staff of two part-time employees assisting her to facilitate a smooth running operation for the library. Eileen Young and Kaliyah Monroe are the two individuals who assist Julie in the day to day running of the facility.

Currently the Dundee Public Library works in close conjunction with Friends of The Library Dundee Inc to offer a wide array of social programs within the community , among them are the children’s story-time presided over by Mary-Ann Podbielski , whereby children of kindergarten age get the chance to spend some time at the library for an hour with Mary-Ann providing them with arts and crafts and a story-time reading session. FOL also operates an outreach program within the community , raising the profile both the Dundee Public Library as well as Friends of The Library Dundee Inc (FOL) .

Another popular initiative recently started by the library are the Wednesday and Thursday afternoon game sessions, where many of the children are provided with the chance to play the card games associated with the Japanese Anime’ genre , those games being Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh.. This is done in conjunction with Carl’s Gamestation located here in the town of Dundee, with a staff member from Carl’s in attendance providing the children with the tutelage and nuances of the games. These sessions are usually ninety minutes duration , starting at 3:30 pm each Wednesday and Thursday afternoon , unless otherwise notified.

Throughout the year , FOL also organizes several events within the community with either the Dundee Library or the Dundee Community Center as the venue for these events.
