Dedication & Memorial Service eulogizing Thelma Jones & Wendy Reid

Friday, 22nd May, 2015, a dedication and memorial service was held at the Dundee Public Library to commemorate the passing of Thelma Jones, longtime employee with Town of Dundee as the Library Director and Wendy Reid, a resident in the town, the very first President and co-founder of Friends of the Library Dundee Inc. Both individuals were lifelong devotees of the town, well-known and respected within the community. Though it is with deepest regret we mourn their passing, but in reality, we are celebrating what they meant to our community, their devotion to the well-being of those closest to them, their family, friends and total dedication to the community and the Dundee Public Library.

The dedication ceremony was proposed jointly by the Dundee Public Library and Friends of The Library Dundee Inc. Among those attending, were town dignitaries, town commission members , former members of the Town Commission, close friends who knew the decedents, as well as the immediate family members of both Thelma Jones and Wendy Reid.

Hosting the event, current Dundee Library Superintendent, Julie Feagle , a hire of the Thelma Jones, who carries on posthumously, the great foundations laid and efforts of her predecessor. Wendy Reid, whose efforts in the founding of Friends of The Library, has now been passed on to the current President, Rukhsana Harper. The founding principles of FOL are to aid in and provide the additional resources needed to enable the continuous and smooth running of the Dundee Public Library. Ensured with this task, Rukhsana and the board members of Friends of The Library have been able to carry out the goals set, while raising the profile of the organization (FOL) within the community, with their Outreach Programs.

It must be noted, without the dedication of both Thelma Jones and Wendy Reid, the Dundee Library and Friends of The Library, would not be what they have become today, a focal point for community spirit and volunteerism, but above all, a symbol of representing the manifestation of the ideas sought by these two devotees of the town. Their passing and what they have meant to this community will be sorely missed.

In honoring Thelma Jones and Wendy Reid, the staff of the Dundee Public Library and volunteers of Friends of The Library wish to pay their sincere condolences and respect to the immediate family members of the Jones and Reid family, present at the ceremony. Plaques honoring both Thelma Jones and Wendy Reid bestowed on the family , with commemorative plaques to be given pride of place within the Library in a setting, to provide the staff, volunteers and patrons, as a reminder of what these both of these individuals meant to our community.
